Sleeping Beauty

I can’t wait for the day

When you will awaken

And squint in the cold paleness of the sun

To behold the light that has faded

Behind dark turbid clouds

And smell the flowers

That have died in your arms.

You will rise and falter

And your quivering legs

Will be your pillars

Which will balance your torso

Against the marauding winds

Which will blow the dead sands

Into small tornadoes swirling

At your toes.

You will see us

And know what we have done

And you will fight back.

Like two lions in the dust, we will clash

Until you stand victorious

And we lie slain and unmoving

In the fragile grey unyielding soil

Bloodless, breathless and bereft of life.

I can’t wait for that day

For the sun will shine once more

Because you asked him to

And flowers will burst from the barren earth

Because you willed them to.

Light will flood the firmament

A breath will burst out of the inanimate

Clad in the million splendid colours of life.

The dawn will come, resplendent and brilliant

Pregnant with new stories

Told in the language of fluttering wings,

Whistling winds and swelling river water.

This will be your world

Your theatre of vitality

Where the stage will be set for your presence

And your baton will command the music of dreams

A rich orchestral prelude set to the rhythm of time

Rising, rising in a rapturous overture

Until every vacuum is filled, every void engulfed,

Every hollow overwhelmed by the glory of your song.

The seas will part and stand muted in awe of your magnificence

And then you will dance...

You will dance...

very beautiful words an thoughts. perhaps all things move in cycles. perhaps the defeated today are the defeators one day ... but then again not forever. perhaps the sad thing is, like Steinbeck said in East of Eden, none of us remember the lessons or our bad times or good times. in good times we think things have always been good and vice versa in bad times

@LostLittleGirl: Thanks! Glad you liked it.

@Ricercar: You're right. Memory is often short and fickle and this makes us take people and things for granted. It's very peculiar. By the way, I can't seem to access your blog.

yes. but maybe that too is as it should be, another enabler for 'normal life'. maybe if we remembered we couldnt really live as fully? thats why we forget, like the souls sent to lethe. my blog is accessible by invitation only. if you would like to read it, i can give you access, but i would need your email id :)

ps - how do you get the video bar? loved a lot of your music that was there, by the way

True. Blocking painful memories out is a means of survival. But then, when memories of certain moments are all you have, then it becomes a means of survival to just clutch them close to you. By the way, we seem to have gone on an interesting tangent. I did not have any of this in mind when I wrote this poem. It's very interesting to see what different people take from from what you write.

If your blog has personal stuff on it and you don't feel comfortable with others reading it, I don't want to impose :).

Oh and about the video bar... go to customise and click on "add gadgets"... it gives a list of things you can put on your page including the video bar.

Thanks for the youtube tip. Yes these comments take things in totally new directions. Sometimes I get that feeling with other ideas in my head too, when I discuss them with others. I think its interesting. I guess that reader never really knwos what the writer was thinking of or means, we reference so obliquely. So what the read into the words makes up their own version of it, which might sometimes just take a totally different life of its own! i was actually interpreting it as cultures or civilizations - not thinking you meant it that way, but because thats what was on my mind at the moment that i read it! about my blog, no its not so much personal, as bad experiences with plagiarism in the past
